Why hire a tipi over a traditional marquee hire?

Tipis look stunning just as they are. With natural tan canvas draped over 100-year-old Spruce poles, they are a feature in themselves. They do not need to be dressed up like a traditional wedding marquee to create a majestic space. Minimal decorating such as bunting or paper lanterns is all you need to make Giant Tipis a great contender for your Big Day.

How do we find the right location for our tipi tent hire?

There are so many more places available than you might think! Small and large wedding venues welcome Giant Tipis.

Country homes, hotels, B&Bs or sports clubs offer manicured gardens to put up your tipi. Or, you can embrace the outdoors theme fully and choose a secluded meadow or field. Maybe someone you know or a relative has an orchard with stunning views, or you might choose one of the many small alternative wedding venues that are becoming increasingly popular?

Places that advertises outdoor space for a marquee wedding will most likely be available to hire for a tipi wedding.

Access

Giant tipis are delivered on an 18ft trailer which is 7ft wide, pulled by a 4×4. We need good access to the tipi site in order to install the tents. Boggy sites might be more of a challenge so we would need to conduct an access survey.

Surface

Ideally, tipis live on grass or any surface where we can stake the poles and canvas. A damp proof membrane is fitted under the woven matt flooring to stop moisture coming through.

Size

Once you find the perfect setting, the tipis will look just the ticket, but the very minimum area you need for one Giant Tipi is 10m diameter with the sides down and 13m diameter with all of the sides up in a “hat configuration.”

For two Giant Tipis, 22m x 11m is required and for three Giant Tipis 22m x 22m is needed for the “tristar formation” or 34m x 11m in the straight configuration. Each Giant Tipi has 83 m/2 of floor space with side extensions available to increase floor space by 28% when room is needed for extra guests, bars and stages.

What is the best time of year for a tipi event?

We all love a warm, bright summer day but Nordic Tipis are suitable for all seasons and weather conditions. Originally a Scandinavian design, they are meant to hold their own against wind, rain and even snow.

Choosing to hire a tipi for your spring / summer wedding will bring a dreamy feel to your Big Day. Keeping the sides raised or semi-raised means that your tipi will blend in perfectly with its surroundings, and you will be able to maximise the outdoor space around it, welcoming the summer breeze to the party. If you have found the perfect beauty spot to hold your outdoor event, the space will be enhanced and come alive at this time of year.

Thinking of having a cool autumn or winter wedding? All you need to do is make sure your site is not too exposed to the elements, preferably protected by a tree line. In windy, chillier conditions, you can keep the tipi’s canvas sides lowered to create a charming hideaway. Light a fire, or add a space heater hidden away for extra comfort, hunker down… and enjoy!

How much does a tipi wedding cost?

In comparison to many hotel or barn packages, you could end up saving a lot of money by having a tipi wedding. Big Day Event Tipis have tipi rental packages starting from as little as £1,620 which includes woven matting and fairy lights draped and hung from the natural pole structure.

The larger the event, the more tipis would be required, which means the price would increase, whilst still remaining competitive, if not cheaper than a traditional marquee rental set up. Our package builder is an excellent way of understanding your requirements and getting more for your money.

Can you help us plan our tipi wedding?

Certainly… A tipi wedding will require a bit more legwork than an all-inclusive option such as a hotel wedding package. If your venue is remote and has no facilities, good organisational skills will come in handy and we will be able to recommend reliable suppliers where required.

If your venue is set-up for marquee events, then you will be in a much more straightforward position in terms of facilities. We give great tipi wedding planning advice from start to finish, so use our experience in the wedding industry to help you plan before your Big Day.

What happens once we confirm your tipi rental?

At this point, the initial client and site meetings will have been completed, confirming your tipi package requirements, number of guests and dates. A 25% deposit will be taken to confirm the rental and the final balance will be due 8 weeks before your event. On-going support is always part of the service at Big Day Event Tipis and we know things will change from your initial choices.

We are always on hand to accommodate any amendments, working with you and your wedding planners right up to the Big Day and beyond.
